The EAA 20 Young Aviators program seeks to spark and nurture students' interest in aviation. Young Aviators sponsor a plane building program. This ambitious, hands-on program teams up mentors and students ages 15 to 21 who together build an actual aircraft, a Van's RV-12. Skills learned range from STEM concepts and safety standards, to teamwork and meticulous organization. The chapter's first aircraft, also a Van's RV-12, built by chapter members and high school students, took flight in September 2020.
Thank you to our supporters: We are extremely grateful to all the donors who have contributed to the second build. A special thanks to Chapter 20 members who serve as mentors and to San Carlos Airport, which provides dedicated hangar space for this educational program. Young Aviators mission statement:Young Aviators aims at unleashing and supporting students' passion for aviation and aerospace. They accomplish this through events, mentoring, and programs, such as the airplane build project, the online talk series, and ground crew volunteering at Young Eagles events. To build a community, they also facilitate networking with like-minded students, pilots, and other aviation and aerospace professionals. |
