About Our Program

The EAA Chapter 20 Young Aviators Build Program is a youth initiative supported by Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 20, based out of San Carlos Airport. Our aim to to create a more inclusive future for aviation by making aviation more accessible for everyone. We have teamed up with experienced mentors, pilots and aircraft technicians to create a hands-on STEM program that allows students (ages 15 or older) to acquire the technical knowledge to build, maintain and fly an aircraft. The skills students develop in our program reach beyond the realm of aviation and can be carried with them for the rest of their lives. Students in our program will learn about engineering, problem solving, critical thinking, safety standards, project management, collaboration, design and more.
Our program has successfully completed one aircraft, a Van's RV-12 that took flight in September of 2020, and are now working diligently on our second aircraft. We are located in Hangar 45s at the San Carlos Airport, builds are every Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. To see the build dates, sign up or to schedule a visit please click the "join the build" button.
